The article reports on efforts by NASA scientists to build nanostructures from thermophilic cyanobacteria living in hot springs. Heat shock protein 60 (HSP60) is purified and engineered to serve as a substrate for quantum dots that are about 1-10 nm across, much smaller than the typical 130 nm found in standard computer chips.  相似文献

An electronic flight progress strip (FPS) display and a color plan view display (CPVD) as a laboratory prototype are described. The purposes of prototype development are to examine the effectiveness and problems of the electronic FPS display in comparison to the current system and to identify the controller-workstation requirements, which are necessary to decide a future planning of a production prototype development. The evaluation and additional test were conducted for a typical en route transition sector. It was found that electronic FPS was useful in the normal traffic load. Some possible improvements were identified in the heavy traffic load situations represented in the additional test  相似文献

“Every Engineer a Leader” was the theme of this year's two-day Careers, sponsored last April in Fort Worth by the IEEE US Activities Board. The General Chairman was Nigel Bristow, and speakers ranged from an engineer who had started a consulting service to engineering-career researchers and corporate executives. The engineers professional world, from the top down, is changing at an exponentially increasing rate. For example, the prime life of a new personal computer is only 60 days, and the next version had better be well on its way to the market by then, explained Jerre L. Stead, CEO of ATT Global Information Solutions, at the IEEE Careers Conference. One result: six out at seven CEOs of the biggest computer companies had been fired in the previous year. 基于压缩系统气动稳定性理论模型对压气机内部流动可压缩性以及叶排之间相互影响的需要,以Moore-Greitzer模型为基础,发展了一个用于分析多级轴流压气机动态失速特性的多"激盘"二维可压缩模型.该模型采用二维非定常的可压缩Euler方程描述压气机上、下游管道以及各叶排之间轴向间隙内的流动,而采用"激盘"分别取代压气机的各个叶片排.利用该模型,系统地计算和分析了多级轴流压气机中二维小尺度旋转失速的起始特性和动-静叶之间的相互影响,以及总压畸变旋转频率对下游压气机稳定性的影响.计算结果与实验数据的比较表明该模型及其计算结果是可靠的.   相似文献

A new method is presented for describing the theoretical interference space-time covariance matrix that will be observed in an adaptive airborne radar system under specific topographical conditions. Both hot clutter that is induced by interfering sources and cold clutter that results from the radar transmitter are considered. This method incorporates phenomenology observed under site specific conditions as well as system effects such as array geometry, receiver filtering, and system bandwidth. Use of this formulation rather than sample data analyses that are generally employed enables one to infer performance bounds for site-specific, and thus generally, heterogeneous terrain that are tighter and therefore more meaningful than the thermal noise floor limit  相似文献

The generalized tree-like transmission line network system having n layers in total with m-to-1 branch connection at each joint (T-TLNS-n-m) is proposed to replace the traditional series-parallel combined dc networks to automatically accumulate identically distributed power cells into the large amount of useful power for the spacecrafts. The proposed system has the attractive features of simple structure, easy construction and maintenance, and low cost, because two kinds of parts, ac current sources and m-to-1 transmission line (TL) branch connection parts, are used in the whole system. A method of implementing ac current cells having high output impedance is proposed to improve the power collection efficiency of the whole network system. Simulated results show that that low-pass nominal /spl pi/- or T-circuit with high characteristic impedance, which is used for the voltage source to current source converter in the current cell, improves the efficiency of the voltage inverter, filters out the harmonics, and increases the output impedance of the whole current cell.  相似文献

A new fourth-order signal aperture radar (SAR) processing algorithm has been developed for a general satellite-Earth relative motion. The two-dimensional exact transfer function (ETF) is calculated and range-variant phase corrections have been calculated in order to process many azimuth lines per block. The ETF together with the phase corrections has been called the fourth-order EETF (extended ETF). It is also shown that a fourth-order EETF is necessary to process high quality images from spaceborne SAR with long integration times with spatial resolution around 1 m. Signal or target detection is sometimes complicated by the presence of strong interference. When this interference occurs mainly in the sidelobes of the antenna pattern, a solution to this problem is realized through a sidelobe canceler (SLC) implementation. Since the false-alarm probability is a system parameter of special importance in radar, an interference-canceling technique for radar application should maintain the false-alarm probability constant over a wide range of incident interference power. With the requirements of sidelobe interference cancellation and constant false alarm rate (CFAR), a new algorithm for radar detection in the presence of sidelobe interference is developed from the generalized likelihood ratio test of Neyman-Pearson. In this development, the received interference is modeled as a nonstationary but slowly varying Gaussian random process. Cancellation of the sidelobe interference is based upon a `synchronous' estimate of the spatial covariance of the interference for the range gate being tested. This algorithm provides a fixed false-alarm rate and a fixed threshold which depend only upon the parameters of the algorithm  相似文献

An extended and unifying system identification technique is presented for a class of systems that include all main signal models that arise in the harmonic decomposition problem. This technique unifies and extends the previously developed system identification techniques which are improvements on the Pisarenko harmonic decomposition (or, its spatial dual, MUSIC) as they arise in arrays of sensors. The advantages of the technique and some of its specializations include having no assumptions of stationarity on the stochastic processes involved. Another contribution of this technique is that it can also be used without any resort to probability theoretic concepts, thus bypassing the approximation of autocorrelations via time averages, yielding the system parameters exactly. This technique can be utilized to determine the dominant modes of vibrations of flexible structures as well. An analogy is established between arrays of sensors for target signal returns and those that can be used for vibrations in flexible structures. This enables the results developed for each one of these problems to be applied to the other  相似文献

The position of a source of radiation is often obtained from bearing data, taken over an interval of time, and combining it with navigation data. A new method using total least squares (TLS) has been suggested for the accurate estimation of an emitter location when bearing observation errors are random. Further, an iterative two-stage approach involving TLS and Kalman filtering is developed for accurate estimation of the emitter location when bearing observation errors are an algebraic sum of random and systematic errors. The elegance and efficacy of the proposed methods are illustrated through digital computer simulated examples  相似文献

A new approach to the extraction of navigation information from Loran-C radionavigation signals is described. A reduced-rate time-reversed sequence is derived from the RF signal and processed by a finite-impulse response (FIR) filter. It is shown that proper design of the FIR filter and proper control of the sampling point guarantee the rejection of skywave contamination, and achieve excellent rejection of continuous-wave interference (CWI). 以三孔探针数据处理常用方法为基础,提出了一种新的三孔探针数据处理方法——相交曲线法。该方法利用三孔压力得到角度系数和速度系数,两个系数分别对应标定平面上的两条相交曲线,再通过简单迭代寻找在标定平面产生的唯一交点,该交点坐标即为对应的马赫数和角度。利用相交曲线法、样条插值法和最小二乘法,对同一状态同一支探针所测数据进行处理。结果表明,与样条插值法和最小二乘法相比,相交曲线法的数据处理精度相当,但效率提高了一倍以上,具有较高的实用价值。  相似文献

In this paper the use of eigenvalue stability analysis of very large dimension aeroelastic numerical models arising from the exploitation of computational fluid dynamics is reviewed. A formulation based on a block reduction of the system Jacobian proves powerful to allow various numerical algorithms to be exploited, including frequency domain solvers, reconstruction of a term describing the fluid-structure interaction from the sparse data which incurs the main computational cost, and sampling to place the expensive samples where they are most needed. The stability formulation also allows non-deterministic analysis to be carried out very efficiently through the use of an approximate Newton solver. Finally, the system eigenvectors are exploited to produce nonlinear and parameterised reduced order models for computing limit cycle responses. The performance of the methods is illustrated with results from a number of academic and large dimension aircraft test cases.  相似文献

A new technique for implementing the enhanced image processing (EIP) algorithm for the formation of inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) images is presented. The EIP algorithm is required when, during the formation of an image, scattering centers on a target move out of range and/or Doppler resolution cells. This phenomenon is common for high resolution imagery of practical-sized targets. The method presented is based entirely on the fast Fourier transform (FFT) and therefore does not require the interpolation schemes that are prevalent in the standard EIP implementation. A brief review of the theory of radar imaging is presented to establish the notation for the work. Following the presentation of the new algorithm, a simple example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new technique. In addition work is presented that demonstrates the processing required to reduce the sidelobes in imagery generated by the EIP technique  相似文献
