Overlap of coverage of the five geostationary satellites has allowed an intercomparison of the FGGE cloud tracked winds. No attempt was made during FGGE to standardize the cloud tracking techniques. In spite of this potential for differences between data sets, the compatability of the various cloud wind data sets was generally quite good. The vector magnitude differences between nearly co-located vectors showed similar cumulative frequency statistics for all data producers. A study of systematic biases which could affect a global wind analysis of any given synoptic period showed that image alignment errors caused less than 2 m s?1 bias for all data producers except the NESS high level winds which had an average bias of slightly greater than 3 m s?1. This appears to be caused by the manual alignment of images in the movie loops. Height bias studies showed the Japanese winds to be higher than other data producers by as much as 100 mb for both the high and low levels winds. Height biases appear to be caused by the differences in cloud wind height assignment procedures.  相似文献

A method for the determination of cloud motion vectors is proposed by calculating from METEOSAT images the displacement of characteristic formations in the brightness field. The claculations are made for a sector of the Atlantic Ocean (ψ = 48°?38°N, λ = 24°?12°W). The adaptability of the Soebel operator for such calculations is also shown. The calculated wind vectors are in a good agreement with wind data at 850 mb surface.  相似文献

The United States supported the First GARP Global Experiment (FGGE) by the use of three geostationary satellites: GOES-East, located at 75°W longitude, GOES-West at 135°W longitude, and, through a special cooperative effort by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the European Space Agency, GOES-Indian Ocean at 58°E longitude. During the FGGE Operational Year, the GOES-East coverage was provided, in turn, by GOES-2, SMS-1, and SMS-2. The GOES-West coverage was provided by GOES-3, and GOES-1 served at the GOES-Indian Ocean location. Satellite and instrument performance was generally satisfactory during that period except for the loss of infrared data from the Indian Ocean GOES for an aggregate of 31 days due to intermittent operation of the sensor. From the GOES-East and GOES-West data, the National Environmental Satellite Service produced cloud motion vectors for 0000, 1200, and 1800 GMT daily, numbering in total about 1400 vectors per day. High resolution wind vectors at the rate of somewhat under 3000 daily were derived from the data from all three satellites in the tropical zone bounded by 15°N and 15°S latitude by the University of Wisconsin. In addition to their contributions to the FGGE research data sets, these three satellites provided other real-time benefits and services.  相似文献

We present neutral meridional winds derived from existing ground-based measurements of the height of the F2-layer maximum electron density (hmax). The method of calculation uses an ionospheric model to determine the relationship between hmax and the neutral wind along a magnetic meridian. The meridional wind is derived from a comparison of the modeled layer height with the measured height. This method is used in the global mapping of thermospheric winds using radar and ionosonde measurements from the Global Thermospheric Mapping Study at the summer and winter solstices. The diurnal behavior of the meridional wind is calculated for the two seasons from Millstone Hill radar measurements and from several ionosonde stations. The major features of the winds calculated from Millstone Hill radar data are a 200 m/s southward wind between 0200 and 0400 hours local time at the summer solstice and a northward daytime wind in winter. A sampling of winds derived from ionosonde data shows the diurnal pattern to vary with geographic latitude and longitude. Nighttime equatorward winds are found to be larger in Europe than at other locations of similar latitude.  相似文献

As an initial effort to study the evolution of the Venus atmosphere, the influence of the solar wind density and the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) x component (the x-axis points from Venus towards the Sun) on the O+ ion escape rate from Venus is investigated using a three-dimensional quasi-neutral hybrid (HYB-Venus) model. The HYB-Venus model is first applied to a case of the high-density (100 cm−3) solar wind interaction with Venus selected from the Pioneer Venus Orbiter observations to demonstrate its capability for the study. Two sets of simulations with a wide range of solar wind densities and different IMF x components are then performed. It is found that the O+ ion escape rate increases with increasing solar wind density. The O+ ion escape rate saturates when the solar wind density becomes high (above 100 cm−3). The results also suggest that the IMF x component enhances the O+ ion escape rate, given a fixed IMF component perpendicular to the x-axis. Finally, the results imply a higher ion loss rate for early-Venus, when solar conditions were dramatically different.  相似文献

为了弥补中高层大气风场探测数据的不足,对2007年COSMIC全球掩星在20~60km高度内的温度数据进行网格化插值,利用梯度风计算方法,计算得到20~60km高度内的月平均纬向风场,分别与ECMWF再分析数据和HWM07模式进行对比分析.结果表明,利用COSMIC温度数据计算得出的纬向风与ECMWF的纬向风十分接近,而与HWM07结果有一定差异,但总体变化趋势一致.与ECMWF再分析数据相比,利用COSMIC温度数据计算的月平均纬向风场平均偏差为-1.50~-0.08m·-1,标准差为1.50~11.95m·-1.与HWM07模式风场相比,利用COSMIC温度计算的月平均纬向风场平均偏差为-0.83~1.21m·-1,标准差为3.69~11.14m·-1.   相似文献

三维磁流体力学(MHD)数值模拟是行星际太阳风研究的重要手段.本文发展了一种由多种观测数据驱动的三维行星际太阳风MHD数值模型.模型的计算区域为0.1AU到1AU附近,使用Lax-Friedrich差分格式在六片网格系统中进行数值求解.边界条件中磁场使用GONG台站观测的光球磁图外推获得,密度通过LASCO观测的白光偏振亮度反演得到,速度根据以上两种观测数据并利用一种基于人工神经网络技术(ANN)的方法得到,温度通过自洽方法根据磁场和密度导出.利用该模型模拟了第2062卡灵顿周(CR2062)时期的行星际太阳风,模拟结果显示出丰富的观测特征,并与OMNI以及Ulysses的实际观测值符合得较好.该模型可用于提供接近真实的行星际太阳风,有助于提高空间天气预报的精度.   相似文献

Time dependent numerical simulation of relativistic wind interaction with interstellar medium was performed. The winds are ejected from magnetosphere of rotation powered pulsars. The particle flux in the winds is assumed to be isotropic. The energy flux is taken as strongly anisotropic in accordance with prediction of the MHD theory of the relativistic winds. The modeling has been performed for the wind magnetization in the range 3 × 10−3–10−1. The numerical solutions reproduce the most spectacular features observed in the central part of plerions: toroidal structure and jet-like features. Increase of the wind’s magnetization results in decrease of the size of the synchrotron nebula.  相似文献

The zonal mean model of zonal and meridional wind for the Northern and Southern Hemisphere based the analysis of meteor radar wind and partial reflection drift data for the 70–110-km height interval is constructed. The height-latitudinal cross-sections of vertical wind are calculated from data on the latitudinal structure of a meridional wind field using the continuity equation. The temperature field cross-sections from the zonal wind model using the thermal wind equation are derived.  相似文献

We have investigated the use of real and synthetic stereo satellite images and stereo graphics in applications such as cloud-tracked winds, severe storm cloud analysis, and general meteorological interpretation. We have concluded that a stereo meteorological presentation is possible and desirable in an operational environment. Synthetic stereo could be used immediately in cloud-tracked wind operations. The presentation allows one to appreciate the interrelations between cloud motions and cloud structures, especially in multi-layered situations. Reprocessing of FGGE tropical wind sets with a synthetic stereo presentation showed some improved yields of low-level vectors, a significant increase in mid-level vectors, and very little change in the high-level vectors. Severe local storm real-stereo presentations are possible operationally because the 15 minute RISOP operations of GOES-East allow simultaneous scanning of both geosynchronous satellites twice per hour. The real-stereo height measurements of overshooting turrets are an improvement over infrared heights and can be used to monitor the strength of the thunderstorm updraft. Synthetic stereo presentations of thunderstorm tops can be presented in a non-linear fashion which stretches out the cloud top features. The synthetic stereo presentation is easier for most people to see. We recommend the use of a hybrid system where the viewing is done on the synthetic stereo image and the quantitative measurements are done on the real-stereo pairs.  相似文献

Data from coronal radio-sounding experiments carried out on various interplanetary spacecraft are used to derive the empirical radial dependence of solar wind velocity and density at heliocentric distances from 3 to 60 solar radii for heliolatitudes below 60° and for low solar activity. The radial dependencies of solar wind power and acceleration are derived from these results. Summaries of the radial behavior of characteristic parameters of the solar wind turbulence (e.g., the spectral index and the inner and outer turbulence scales), as well as the fractional density fluctuation, are also presented. These radio-sounding results provide a benchmark for models of the solar wind in its acceleration region.  相似文献

In this paper we study the charging process of small grain particles by anisotropic multi-component solar wind plasmas (electrons, protons and heavy ions), versus two-component (electron/proton) plasmas. We are focusing attention on the important characteristics of the charging process, namely the charging time, floating potential and current content as functions of plasma parameters such as He++/H+ (α/p) number density and Tα/Tp temperature ratios of alpha particles to protons, as well as plasma streaming velocity v0. Measured statistical properties of solar wind plasma parameters at 1 AU show considerable variations in α/p-temperature ratios from 1 to 10, in α/p-number density ratio from 0.01 to 0.35, as well as in values of streaming velocity v0 from 200 km/s to 1000 km/s and more. Periods of these variations could last for several days each, leading to significant variability in the charging process, according to newly derived general analytical expressions. Numerical calculations performed for protons/alphas plasmas showed large disparity in the charging characteristics. For example, in anisotropic plasma, grain charging time varies up to 90% depending on α/p-particles temperature and number density ratios, whereas changes in floating potential are up to 40%. In contrast, in isotropic plasma, charging characteristic for grains do not change very much for the same plasma parameters variations, with charging time varying about 12% and floating potential only varying about 4%. It is also shown that in highly anisotropic plasma, with all ballistic electrons and ions, dust grains could not hold their charges, and characteristic discharged time is calculated. We note that the analysis is equally applicable to any sized body immersed in solar wind plasma.  相似文献

We develop a three-dimensional (3-D) model of the 27-day variation of galactic cosmic-ray (GCR) intensity with a spatial variation of the solar wind velocity. A consistent, divergence-free interplanetary magnetic field is derived by solving the corresponding Maxwell equations with a variable solar wind speed, which reproduces in situ observed experimental data for the time interval to be analyzed (24 August 2007–28 February 2008). We perform model calculations for the GCR intensity using the variable solar wind and the corresponding magnetic field. Results are compatible with experimental data; the correlation coefficient between our model predictions and observed 27-day GCR variation is 0.80 ± 0.05.  相似文献

利用2005年第二代地球观测卫星系统(EOS)的Aura卫星上MLS观测的压强、温度、密度等数据,推算出全球中层大气的平均背景风场,分析了中层大气风场随时间和高度变化的特点.与武汉流星雷达及澳大利亚Adelaide台站观测的比较结果显示,用Aura数据推算出来的风场与实际观测比较符合.与HWM-93模式的比较显示,Aura风场随时间和空间变化的总体趋势与HWM-93基本吻合.特别是在80km以下的高度范围内Aura数据与HWM-93数据符合得比较好;在80 km以上的高度,Aura所算得的风值与HWM-93风值的差别逐渐增大,Aura风值普遍比HWM-93的要大.   相似文献

During the encounter between the ICE spacecraft and Comet Giacobini-Zinner, intense fluxes of energetic heavy ions were observed at distances up to 4 × 106 km from the comet. These ions were observed with steep energy spectra and highly anisotropic angular distributions, and are consistent with a composition comprising mainly ions from the water group. The flux versus time profiles have a general fall-off with increasing distance from the comet, but are modulated by both changes in the magnetic field direction and the solar wind velocity, the magnetic field variations being mainly responsible for variations on a time scale of minutes, and the solar wind velocity variations being responsible for much larger time-scale modulations, such as the inbound/outbound asymmetry of the intensity profile. In this paper we present correlated observations of heavy ions, the solar wind velocity and the magnetic field direction, and compare the observations of the ions with the theoretical predictions for their variations with distance from the comet, with the solar wind velocity and with the magnetic field direction.  相似文献

The earth's magnetosphere absorbs only a minor fraction (≈ 10?3) of the incident solar wind energy. Variations of the solar wind can often cause lively reactions in the earth's close environment. However, the physical mechanisms involved are not yet understood. It appears now that the combined action of the solar wind momentum flux, the direction of the interplanetary magnetic field as well as its fluctuations might play the dominant role. The behaviour of these parameters is governed in some characteristic way by the solar wind stream structure which reflects the condition of the solar corona and its magnetic field topology. Transients in the sun's atmosphere associated with solar activity cause reactions in the interplanetary medium which also show some typical, though very different, signatures. Taking into account the interdependence of the solar wind parameters in context with the underlying solar phenomena, we may be able to pinpoint the mechanism which controls the action of the solar wind on the magnetosphere.  相似文献

A major uncertainty concerning the origins of plasma sheet ions is due to the fact that terrestrial H+ can have similar fluxes and energies as H+ from the solar wind. The situation is especially ambiguous during magnetically quiet conditions (AE < 60γ) when H+ typically contributes more than 90% of the plasma sheet ion population. In this study we examine that problem using a large data set obtained by the ISEE-1 Plasma Composition Experiment. The data suggest that one component of the H+ increases in energy with increasing activity, roughly in proportion to 14 the energy of the He++, whereas the other H+ component has about the same energy at all activity levels, as do the O+ and the He+. If we can assume that the H+ of solar wind origin on the average has about the same energy-per-nucleon as the He++, which is presumably almost entirely from the solar wind, then the data imply that as much as 20–30% of the H+ can be of terrestrial origin even during quiet conditions.  相似文献

Ions produced by ionization of the cometary neutrals interact with the solar wind protons to produce large amplitude oscillations of the ambient magnetic field. Such oscillations are convected towards the comet at the unperturbed solar wind speed far from the shock and at a lower speed closer to the shock (due to the solar wind mass loading); hence, they can energize the incoming ions by Fermi acceleration. The spatial extension of the acceleration region is of the order of 106 km and the resulting energy spectrum is harder than in the Earth's bow shock case. The energization of cometary ions produces an additional deceleration of the solar wind. It is suggested that Comet Halley may be the most efficient “cosmic ray shock” in the solar system.  相似文献

针对垂直/短距起降(V/STOL)飞机在悬停/平移模式下存在的动力学耦合、推力矢量控制冗余以及易受扰动风影响的问题,提出了一种基于高阶线性自抗扰控制(LADRC)的鲁棒协调解耦控制方法。首先根据V/STOL飞机的概念方案,建立了推力矢量模型和扰动风影响下的非线性悬停/平移运动模型。然后在此基础上,给出了该模式下位置和姿态的协调控制策略,据此通过控制量变换设计了六通道的自抗扰解耦控制律,其中利用LADRC对总扰动的实时估计补偿能力避免了多推力矢量的冗余控制。仿真比较结果验证了LADRC对悬停/平移模式控制的有效性以及对飞机内部参数摄动和外界突风干扰的鲁棒性。   相似文献

We explore a possibility that the daily sea-level pressure (SLP) over South Korea responds to the high-speed solar wind event. This is of interest in two aspects: first, if there is a statistical association this can be another piece of evidence showing that various meteorological observables indeed respond to variations in the interplanetary environment. Second, this can be a very crucial observational constraint since most models proposed so far are expected to preferentially work in higher latitude regions than the low latitude region studied here. We have examined daily solar wind speed V, daily SLP difference ΔSLP, and daily log(BV2) using the superposed epoch analysis in which the key date is set such that the daily solar wind speed exceeds 800 km s−1. We find that the daily ΔSLP averaged out of 12 events reaches its peak at day +1 and gradually decreases back to its normal level. The amount of positive deviation of ΔSLP is +2.5 hPa. The duration of deviation is a few days. We also find that ΔSLP is well correlated with both the speed of solar wind and log(BV2). The obtained linear correlation coefficients and chance probabilities with one-day lag for two cases are r ? 0.81 with P > 99.9%, and r ? 0.84 with P > 99.9%, respectively.
