Spin-scan images from the Pioneer Venus Orbiter UV Spectrometer and the Cloud Photopolarimeter provide a set of planetary contrast measurements in the wavelength range 1990A to 3650A and phase angles from 33°–130°. The planet is darkest at the point where the UVS line of sight penetrates perpendicular to the cloud tops: thus the absorbing material responsible must be deep in the atmosphere. Sulfur dioxide absorption can explain the amount of contrast seen between 2000A and 3200A. At the longer wavelengths, the persistence of contrast requires another absorber which is deeper in the atmosphere and strongly associated with the location of the SO2. Part of the observed contrast is due to the high-lying haze discovered from Pioneer Venus polarimetry. The correlation between planetary contrast and polarization does not support large scale clearing or major vertical motions of the cloud tops as the sole cause of the observed contrast. However, a scheme in which absorbers subject to photochemical destruction are mixed upward into the cloud top region provides a consistent explanation for the origin of these markings.  相似文献

The five chemical classes of chondrite, i.e. E-, H-, L-, LL- and C-chondrite, and three major classes of achondrite, i.e. diogenite, eucrite plus howardite, and ureilite, are magnetically identified to respective separated domains on an Is (α)/Is versus Is diagram, where Is and Is (α) denote respectively the saturation magnetization and the saturation magnetization of α-phase alone. Three major groups of iron meteorite, i.e. hexahedrite plus Ni-poor ataxite, octahedrite and Ni-rich ataxite, are magnetically identified to respective domains on an Is (α)/Is versus
→ α diagram, where
→ α denotes
→ α transition temperature of kamacite phase in the cooling process. The magnetic classification schemes well represent the chemical characteristics of each meteorite class. The paleointensity (Fp) of meteorites determined to date can be summarized as Fp=0.01 ~ 0.1 Oe for eucrites and ureilites, Fp? 1 Oe for C-chondrites, and Fp? 10 Oe for E-chondrites.  相似文献

In the present work the possibility of the fractal analysis application for GRB temporal profiles was studied. We have analysed the 4B revised BATSE catalog: temporal profiles of GRB with t90 < 3 s (287 short and 100 intermediate) were studied on TTE data, a sample of 278 intermediate GRB with t90  3 s were studied on DISCSC data. An analysis of the background fractal dimension distributions obtained using TTE and DISCSC data (143 and 110 background regions, respectively), indicates that for both datasets background fractal dimensions Dbgr = 1.5 that the fractal dimension distributions obtained by using these data can be processed simultaneously. The change of the fractal index Dbgr for Poisson statistics – dominated sets with different coefficients of error in counting (up to 10) was studied and Dbgr = 1.5. The ranges of fractal dimension (0.80  D  2.25 for short and 0.85  D  2.01 for intermediate GRB) are shifted over range for theoretical fractal curve (1 < D < 2) due to the finite detector time resolution. There are four subgroups in fractal dimension distribution for short GRB (D = 1.05 ± 0.03, D = 1.31 ± 0.05, D = 1.51 ± 0.04, D = 1.90 ± 0.03) and six subgroups for intermediate one (D = 1.05 ± 0.09, D = 1.24 ± 0.08, D = 1.44 ± 0.07, D = 1.51 ± 0.08, D = 1.64 ± 0.07, D = 1.91 ± 0.1). Time profiles with fractal dimension smaller then background can be obtained by using models with many short chaotic processes in sources, for example, fireball model with shock waves. The range of fractal dimensions for the modelled temporal profiles is 1.213  D  1.400, which can correspond to subgroups of short and intermediate GRB with D = 1.31 and D = 1.24; moreover, the fractal dimension of a simulated indented event and GRB990208 are equal within the error limits for some model parameters and it is possible to obtain smooth temporal profiles with D = Dbgr.  相似文献

Crossings of the magnetopause near the subsolar point are analyzed using data of THEMIS mission. Variations of the magnetic field near magnetopause measured by one of THEMIS satellites are studied and compared with simultaneous measurements in the solar wind by another THEMIS satellite. The time delay of the solar wind arrival at the subsolar point of the magnetopause is taken into account. 30 and 90 s averaging of the magnetic field in the magnetosheath is produced. The results of averaging are compared with the results of measurements in the solar wind before the bow shock and foreshock. It is shown, that BxBx component of the magnetic field near magnetopause is near to zero, which supports the possibility to consider the magnetopause as the tangential discontinuity. Comparatively good correlation of ByBy component in the solar wind and near the magnetopause is observed. The correlation of BzBz component near the magnetopause and IMF is practically absent, the sign of the BzBz near the subsolar point does not coincide with the sign of IMF BzBz in ∼30% cases.  相似文献

We carried out spectro-temporal analysis of the archived data from multiple outbursts spanning over the last two decades from the black hole X-ray binary GX 339-4. In this paper, the mass of the compact object in the X-ray binary system GX 339-4 is constrained based on three indirect methods. The first method uses broadband spectral modelling with a two component flow structure of the accretion around the black hole. The broadband data are obtained from RXTE (Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer) in the range 3.0 to 150.0?keV and from Swift and NuSTAR (Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array) simultaneously in the range 0.5 to 79.0?keV. In the second method, we model the time evolution of Quasi-periodic Oscillation (QPO) frequencies, considering it to be the result of an oscillating shock that radially propagates towards or away from the compact object. The third method is based on scaling a mass dependent parameter from an empirical model of the photon index (Γ) – QPO (ν) correlation. We compare the results at 90 percent confidence from the three methods and summarize the mass estimate of the central object to be in the range 8.2811.89M.  相似文献
