Modelling of the electromagnetic field in the interplanetary space and in the Earth's magnetosphere

A magnetohydrodynamic model of the solar wind flow is constructed using a kinematic approach. It is shown that a phenomenological conductivity of the solar wind plasma plays a key role in the forming of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) component normal to the ecliptic plane. This component is mostly important for the magnetospheric dynamics which is controlled by the solar wind electric field. A simple analytical solution for the problem of the solar wind flow past the magnetosphere is presented. In this approach the magnetopause and the Earth's bow shock are approximated by the paraboloids of revolution. Superposition of the effects of the bulk solar wind plasma motion and the magnetic field diffusion results in an incomplete screening of the IMF by the magnetopause. It is shown that the normal to the magnetopause component of the solar wind magnetic field and the tangential component of the electric field penetrated into the magnetosphere are determined by the quarter square of the magnetic Reynolds number. In final, a dynamic model of the magnetospheric magnetic field is constructed. This model can describe the magnetosphere in the course of the severe magnetic storm. The conditions under which the magnetospheric magnetic flux structure is unstable and can drive the magnetospheric substorm are discussed. The model calculations are compared with the observational data for September 24–26, 1998 magnetic storm (Dst _min=−205 nT) and substorm occurred at 02:30 UT on January 10, 1997. Nonlinear effects in the ELF waves propagating along the magnetic field in the magnetosphere

This paper is a review of nonlinear theory of ELF waves propagating along the magnetic field in the magnetosphere. The following subjects are covered: (1) Main peculiarities of the Quasi-linear Approximation. (2) Nonlinear interaction of monochromatic waves with the resonant particles. (3) Side-band instability. (4) Quasimonochromatic wave packets. (5) Effects due to the inhomogeneity of the medium.

岁末,大雪初霁,银装素裹,此时登临武当仙山,真天意也。传说武当山是真武大帝修炼飞升之地。真武大帝得道成仙之后,成为坐阵北方的神。为了给自己篡位一事开脱,明永乐帝自称是真武下凡。先以"非真武不足以当之"之名敕封武当山为"五岳"之首,继而又从北京以及江南各地调派了30万人马大修武当山,史称"北修故宫,南修武当"。永乐帝的这一举措,使武当山达到了鼎盛时期。斗转星移,如今,同样在武当山修炼的道士张三丰借助金庸武侠小说的风靡,名头已经盖过了真武大帝,多少人为玄妙飘灵、出神入化的武当功夫而倾倒,前来拜谒武当。然而,促使我隆冬时节,千里迢迢奔来朝觐的真正原因却并非如此。20年前,我好老庄之学,因此,能到被誉为"亘古无双胜境,天下第一仙山"的武当一游便成了心中的向往,孰料天意弄人,20年之后,我才有缘了却夙愿。     

ETBA法在PHA分析中的应用

基于能量意外释放理论和事故三角模型,并通过对比和借鉴一般作业风险评价方法(LEC法)的有关内容,对能量跟踪与屏障分析方法(ETBA法)的计算过程进行了进一步的思考.并尝试应用其来量化预先危险性分析方法(PHA法)分析的结果,这样可以使得PHA分析结果具备伞面与重点兼顾、定性与定量结合的效果,并且使危险等级的划分更加明确,使其能为进一步的危险分析及建设项目的设计、整改工作提供更为切实的依据.

Reconnection in the magnetotail

The ion tearing mode is considered as the only mechanism capable of initiating reconnection processes in the equilibrium plasma sheet whose scale considerably exceeds the ion Larmor radius. The paper gives a brief review of linear theory of the tearing mode instability that allows the onset of its development to be determined. It is shown that the explosive growth of the tearing mode in a nonlinear stage is consistent with the dynamics of charged particle acceleration and the behaviour of the magnetic field variations and plasma flow in the magnetotail. The tail structure formed, as a result of the development of the tearing mode, is also discussed.Proceedings of the Symposium on Solar Terrestrial Physics held in Innsbruck, May–June 1978.     

Abundances of the elements in the solar system

The present status of abundance information for elements in meteorites and in the Sun is reviewed, and a new table of abundances of the elements, which should be characteristic of the primitive solar nebula, is compiled and presented. Special attention is called to the elemental abundances in the silicon-to-calcium region, where many of the abundances are rather poorly determined, and where these abundances have an impact on theories of nucleosynthesis of the elements. To each elemental isotope is assigned a mechanism of nucleosynthesis which may have been responsible for production of most of that isotope, and brief comments are made concerning the present status of understanding of the different mechanisms of nucleosynthesis.This paper not presented at the Symposium on Cosmochemistry.     

On the primordial black holes in the earth

Astrophysical limitations do not exclude the possibility of some number of dark matter primordial Black Holes (BH) being seeded in the interiors of the Earth at the epoch of planet condensation in the young Solar System. We show that limitations on the neutrino radiation due to the BH quantum evaporation and accretion growth of BH mass completely forbid the existence of primordial BH of any mass in the Earth.
