We study the design of constant false-alarm rate (CFAR) tests for detecting a rank-one signal in the presence of background Gaussian noise with unknown spatial covariance. We look at invariant tests, i.e., those tests whose performance is independent of the nuisance parameters, like the background noise covariance. Such tests are shown to have the desirable CFAR property. We characterize the class of all such tests by showing that any invariant decision statistic can be written as a function of two basic statistics which are in fact the adaptive matched filter (AMF) statistic and Kelly's generalized likelihood ratio statistic. Further, we establish an optimum test in the limit of low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the locally most powerful invariant (LMPI) test. We also derive the bound for the probability of detection of any invariant detector, at a fixed false-alarm rate, and compare the LMPI and the published detectors (Kelly and AMF) to it  相似文献

Mismatched Filtering of Sonar Signals   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A replica correlator (matched filter) is an optimum processor for a receiver employing a pulse of continuous wave (CW) signal in a white Gaussian noise background. In an active sonar, however, when the target of interest has low Doppler shift and is embedded in a high reverberation background, this is not so. High sidelobes of the correlator frequency response pass a significant portion of the signal contained in the mainlobe of the reverberation spectrum. In order to reduce the sidelobes of the correlator output spectrum and at the same time keep the increase in its 3 dB bandwidth to a small amount, we propose lengthening of the replica of the transmitted signal and weighting it by a Kaiser window. It is demonstrated that by extending the weighted replica by 50 percent compared with the transmitted signal, it is possible to reduce the sidelobe levels to at least 40 dB below the mainlobe peak, with the concomitant increase of the 3 dB band-width by less than 5 percent. The degradation in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance for such a ?mismatched? filter receiver with respect to the matched filter is less than 1.5 dB.  相似文献

Calculation of optimum gain for minimum distortion due to A/D (analog-to-digital) conversion requires the estimation of the input signal strength. To use a common AGC (automatic gain control) for both the I/Q (in-phase and quadrature) signals, it is efficient to estimate the input signal strength using the quantized A/D output from both channels. Assuming a Gaussian input, the relationship between σ of the input of the A/D converter and E(|x|+|y|) and E(max(|x|,|y|)+1/2 min (|x|,|y|)) for t quantized I/Q output x and y is derived. Numerical results obtained using the derived expression and the statistical data obtained through simulation show excellent agreement. It is concluded that, because of its simplicity, the cubic equation obtained by fitting the numerical results should be useful  相似文献

The drift angle of an inertial platform which is gyro-stabilized with respect to inertial space is equal to the integral of the gyro drift rate. Under controlled laboratory environment the drift angle, denoted by y, may be measured and plotted against time in an interval [0, T]. Without loss in generality, one may take y(0)= 0. A straight line yf can be found, such that the quantity E2 is minimized, where begin{equation*}E^2 = {frac{1}{T}int^{T}_{0}(y-y_f)^{2}}dt.end{equation*} The equation for yf is of the form yf = at + b and, in general, both a and b are nonzero. It is desirable to determine a statistical relationship between the gyro drift rate and the expected value of the minimum E2 for any given interval T. An analysis in this paper determines this relationship and derives a general expression for , where the symbol <*> denotes statistical expectation. It is found that increases linearly with the variance of the gyro drift rate. This general formula is then developed in detail for the case of a first-order Markovian gyro drift. is evaluated numerically and its square root plotted vs. the interval T and the gyro correlation time. The same problem is also solved for the case when yf is constrained to intersect the origin, i.e., when b=0.  相似文献

A Semicoherent Detection and Doppler Estimation Statistic   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Consider a uniform train of M coherent short pulses transmitted by a radar and received with a Doppler shift. When thermal noise is present, let the mth sample of the return at the video be represented by the complex process Zm. A novel detection and Doppler estimation criterion is analyzed which depends on the semicoherent statistic begin{equation*}{Z_{K}}^prime = sum_{m=k+1}^{M} {^{z}m^{z}m-k}^{ *}end{equation*} where the asterisk stands for complex conjugate. Its characteristics are also studied when the real and imaginary parts of Zm are digitized to one bit.  相似文献

A K times L ternary array, comprised of the elements {0, 1, - 1}, with some unique features, represents a multicarrier radar signal with favorable autocorrelation and ambiguity functions. Constructing such an array using Galois fields is described. As in a Costas binary array, only one frequency is transmitted at any time slot, but in our array the same frequency is repeated in several time slots, yielding a signal with considerably larger pulse compression than a Costas signal that uses the same number of frequencies  相似文献

Deals with the problem of detecting subspace random signals against correlated non-Gaussian clutter exploiting different degrees of knowledge on target and clutter statistical characteristics. The clutter process is modeled by the compound-Gaussian distribution. In the first part of the paper, the optimum Neyman-Pearson (NP) detector, the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT), and a constant false-alarm rate (CFAR) detector are sequentially derived both for the Gaussian and the compound-Gaussian scenarios. Different interpretations of the various detectors are provided to highlight the relationships and the differences among them. In particular, we show how the GLRT detector may be recast into an estimator-correlator form and into another form, namely a generalized whitening-matched filter (GWMF), which is the GLRT detector against Gaussian disturbance, compared with a data-dependent threshold. In the second part of this paper, the proposed detectors are tested against both simulated data and measured high resolution sea clutter data to investigate the dependence of their performance on the various clutter and signal parameters.  相似文献

The Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) satellite, currently planned to he launched in the course of 2006, will require a precise drag compensation and a fine attitude control along the Local Orbiting Reference Frame (LORF) of a polar Sun-synchronous low orbit, allowing the Earth gravity field to be recovered with unprecedented accuracy by post-processing the scientific telemetry. To this aim, the spectral density of the spacecraft linear and angular accelerations must be limited below 0.025 respectively, in the frequency range from 5 mHz to 0.1 Hz, the gradiometer measurement bandwidth. In the same range, the orientation errors of the spacecraft in the LORF and of the LORF in the inertial frame must be kept below 10 . The Drag-Free Mode, encharged of drag-free and attitude control (DFAC) during measurement phases, determines the spacecraft state vector using a very precise gradiometer, one large Field-of-View Star Tracker and a Satellite-to-Satellite Tracking Instrument. Force and torque commands are actuated by two assemblies of thrusters: a single ion-thruster acting along the orbital direction, a set of eight micro-thrusters acting along the other five degrees of freedom. To cover every mission scenario, other control modes have been studied and designed: the Coarse Pointing Mode dedicated to rate damping and Sun acquisition, the Fine Pointing Mode handling the transition to Drag-Free Mode and the Ultimate Safe Mode, a survival operative mode to improve mission reliability. Results presented in this paper give a positive perspective on the solidity of the current DFAC design. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A general expression of the output SNR of a photodetector is derived for a noise-like laser amplitude-modulated by a stationary Gaussian random modulating signal in the presence of a background light. The electric field Vx(t) of the noise-like laser is assumed to be a stationary narrowband Gaussian random process with zero mean. Two types of modulating signal are considered, the baseband and bandpass modulating signals. More specifically, the effects of the center frequency of the modulating signal, the modulating degree, the bandwidth ration of the noise-like laser to the modulating signal, the effective average quantum rate, and input CNR on output SNR are studied. The detection characteristics of the noise-like laser are also made clear by comparison with the case of a coherent laser.  相似文献

Continuous wave (CW) signals phase modulated by a periodic waveform, and their corresponding receivers, are discussed. The combined response in delay and Doppler is almost identical to the (ideal) response of the coherent pulse train. The receivers are matched to an integral number N of modulation periods of the transmitted signal. CW implies a duty cycle of 100%. However, the signal duration need not be longer than N+2 periods. The CW signals have the advantage that their peak power is equal to the average power. Their disadvantages are more complicated receiver processing and the need for two antennas  相似文献

Closed-form expressions for the false-alarm and detection probabilities attained by the optimum and the linear detectors of a positive signal in n independent samples of noise having a bilateral exponential or Laplace distribution require lengthy computation when n is large, and those for the optimum detector suffer from round-off error because their terms alternate in sign. It is shown how the method of saddlepoint integration can be conveniently applied to compute these probabilities, and numerical comparisons of the accuracies of the methods are presented. The relative efficiency of the two detectors is calculated as a function of n and found to approach the asymptotic value of 2 very slowly  相似文献

The authors develop the theory of CA-CFAR (cell-averaging constant false-alarm rate) detection using multiple sensors and data fusion, where detection decisions are transmitted from each CA-CFAR detector to the data fusion center. The overall decision is obtained at the data fusion center based on some k out of n fusion rule. For a Swerling target model I embedded in white Gaussian noise of unknown level, the authors obtain the optimum threshold multipliers of the individual detectors. At the data fusion center, they derive an expression for the overall probability of detection while the overall probability of false alarm is maintained at the desired value for the given fusion rules. An example is presented showing numerical results  相似文献

Multiresolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image formation has been proven to be beneficial in a variety of applications such as improved imaging and target detection as well as speckle reduction. SAR signal processing traditionally carried out in the Fourier domain has inherent limitations in the context of image formation at hierarchical scales. We present a generalized approach to the formation of multiresolution SAR images using biorthogonal shift-invariant discrete wavelet transform (SIDWT) in both range and azimuth directions. Particularly in azimuth, the inherent subband decomposition property of wavelet packet transform is introduced to produce multiscale complex matched filtering without involving any approximations. This generalized approach also includes the formulation of multilook processing within the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) paradigm. The efficiency of the algorithm in parallel form of execution to generate hierarchical scale SAR images is shown. Analytical results and sample imagery of diffuse backscatter are presented to validate the method.  相似文献

The a posteriori probability density function p(?|X1, X2,...,Xk), where the Xi, i=1, 2, ..., K, represent Kvector-valued observations statistically related to the random vector ?, appears in many applications of the methods of statistical inference to problems in pattern recognition and statistical communication theory. In this paper, it is shown that for equally likely binary sequences (M= 2) of anticorrelated patterns for signals observed in additive Gaussian noise, a device that computes p?|X1, X2, XK) can be synthesized from a correlator, a simple instantaneous nonlinearity, and a multiplier. These results are used to derive some equally simple structures for various optimum nonsupervised estimators, pattern recognition machines, and signal detectors.  相似文献

Both the method of saddlepoint integration and its associated saddlepoint approximation are applied to calculating the probability of detecting correlated Rayleigh-fading signals in Gaussian noise by means of a detector that integrates M samples of the output of a quadratic rectifier. The quadrature components of the signal samples are modeled as an autoregressive moving-average process, and specific results are exhibited for a first-order Markov process. By these methods the fluctuation loss can be computed for much larger values of M and for larger values of the detection probability than previously. Values calculated by the saddlepoint approximation prove to be close enough to the exact values to be useful over a broad range of signal parameters  相似文献

The optimum design of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems intended to classify randomly reflecting areas, such as agricultural fields, characterized by a reflectivity density spectral density is studied. Assuming areas of known shape and location, the binary case, and a certain Gaussian signal field property, and ignoring interfield interference, the problem solution is given. The optimum processor includes conventional matched filter processing, but is nonlinear; a coherent optical system realization is outlined. The performance is approximated using a x2 assumption and bounded by the Cernov bound. A fundamental design problem involves the system bandwidth analogously, in a special case, as in diversity communication systems; a solution is given based on the Cernov bound. A set of summary design curves is given and exemplified by a satellite SAR system design. Also discussed is the measurement of reflectivity spectral density amplitude with imaging sidelooking (synthetic or ?brute-force?) radars and the maximum likelihood estimator's accuracy and realization with a coherent optical system. It is also shown that a CW modulation is useable if the random reflectivity is, effectively, isotropic. Finally, the reflectivity density spectral density amplitude, when constant over the spatial bandpass of the measuring system, is related to the scattering cross-section density commonly measured.  相似文献

The trimmed generalized sign (TGS) nonparametric detector is introduced. The TGS and the modified median detector (MMD) are considered in situations when more than one target is present. Their performance is obtained through Monte Carlo simulations and compared with that of the generalized sign (GS) detector when detecting nonfluctuating signal in Gaussian noise.  相似文献

The receiver characteristics of a laser altimeter system containing an avalanche photodiode photodetector are analyzed using the Gaussian approximation, the saddlepoint approximation, and a nearly exact analysis. The last two methods are shown to yield very similar results except when the background noise is extremely low and the probability of false alarm is high. However, the Gaussian approximation method is shown to cause significant errors even under relatively high levels of background noise and received signal energy  相似文献

This article reviews recent development of the theory of current loop coalescence and shock waves, giving particular attention to particle acceleration caused by these processes. First, explosive reconnection driven by the current loop coalescence and associated particle acceleration are studied by theoretical and magnetohydrodynamic simulation methods and the results are compared with observations of solar flares; this model gives a good explanation for the quasi-periodic structure of some solar flare bursts. Next follows a discussion of particle acceleration in association with fast magnetosonic shock waves. It is shown theoretically and by relativistic particle simulation that a quasi-perpendicular shock wave can accelerate trapped ions in the direction perpendicular to the ambient magnetic field up to speeds much greater than the Alfvén speed, . When the ambient magnetic field is rather strong ( ce pe ), both ions and electrons can be accelerated to relativistic energies. For both the nonrelativistic and relativistic cases, the time needed for the acceleration is very short; it is for the ions. These results are compared with the rapid and simultaneous acceleration of ions and electrons in the impulsive phase of solar flares.  相似文献

Deuterium fractionations in cometary ices provide important clues to the origin and evolution of comets. Mass spectrometers aboard spaceprobe Giotto revealed the first accurate D/H ratios in the water of Comet 1P/Halley. Ground-based observations of HDO in Comets C/1996 B2 (Hyakutake) and C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp), the detection of DCN in Comet Hale-Bopp, and upper limits for several other D-bearing molecules complement our limited sample of D/H measurements. On the basis of this data set all Oort cloud comets seem to exhibit a similar ratio in H2O, enriched by about a factor of two relative to terrestrial water and approximately one order of magnitude relative to the protosolar value. Oort cloud comets, and by inference also classical short-period comets derived from the Kuiper Belt cannot be the only source for the Earth's oceans. The cometary O/C ratio and dynamical reasons make it difficult to defend an early influx of icy planetesimals from the Jupiter zone to the early Earth. D/H measurements of OH groups in phyllosilicate rich meteorites suggest a mixture of cometary water and water adsorbed from the nebula by the rocky grains that formed the bulk of the Earth may be responsible for the terrestrial D/H. The D/H ratio in cometary HCN is 7 times higher than the value in cometary H2O. Species-dependent D-fractionations occur at low temperatures and low gas densities via ion-molecule or grain-surface reactions and cannot be explained by a pure solar nebula chemistry. It is plausible that cometary volatiles preserved the interstellar D fractionation. The observed D abundances set a lower limit to the formation temperature of (30 ± 10) K. Similar numbers can be derived from the ortho-to-para ratio in cometary water, from the absence of neon in cometary ices and the presence of S2. Noble gases on Earth and Mars, and the relative abundance of cometary hydrocarbons place the comet formation temperature near 50 K. So far all cometary D/H measurements refer to bulk compositions, and it is conceivable that significant departures from the mean value could occur at the grain-size level. Strong isotope effects as a result of coma chemistry can be excluded for molecules H2O and HCN. A comparison of the cometary ratio with values found in the atmospheres of the outer planets is consistent with the long-held idea that the gas planets formed around icy cores with a high cometary D/H ratio and subsequently accumulated significant amounts of H2 from the solar nebula with a low protosolar D/H.
