A low probability of intercept (LPI), or low probability of detection (LPD) communication technique known as cyclic code shift keying (CCSK) is described. We discuss the basic concepts of CCSK and describe a system based on the use of random or pseudorandom codes for biphase modulation. We use simulation to show that the bit error rate (BER) for CCSK can be closely estimated by using existing equations that apply to M-ary orthogonal signaling (MOS). Also, we show that significantly fewer computations are required for CCSK than for MOS when the number of bits per symbol is the same. We show that using biphase modulation results in waveforms that have a large time-bandwidth product and very low input signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and thus inherently have an LPI by a radiometer. We evaluate detection by a radiometer and show that LPI can be achieved by using codes of lengths greater than about 2/sup 12/ (i.e., by transmitting more than about 12 bits per symbol). Results illustrate the effect that the CCSK symbol length and error probability, and the radiometer integration time and probability of false alarm (PFA), have on detection by a radiometer. We describe a variation of CCSK called truncated CCSK (TCCSK). In this system, the code of length 2/sup k/ is cyclically shifted, then truncated and transmitted. Although shortened, the truncated code still represents k bits of information, thus leading to an increased data rate. We evaluate radiometer detection of TCCSK and it is shown that the probability of detection is increased compared with the detection of CCSK.  相似文献

We consider a least mean square (LMS) adaptive array [1] receiving a phase modulated interference signal. The phase modulation is assumed to be periodic and to have finite bandwidth. Under these assumptions, we determine the time-varying array weights, the modulation on the array output desired signal, and the time-varying output interference-to-noise ratio (INR) and SINR (signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio). We present numerical results describing the behavior of a 2-element adaptive array that receives an interference signal with sinusoidal phase modulation. We show how each signal parameter (arrival angle, power, modulation index, and modulation frequency) affects the performance of the array.  相似文献

We show that this equation can be solved explicitly with an arbitrary initial condition by solving a system of ordinary differential equations and a Kolmogorov-type equation, Let n be the dimension of state space. We study the design of constant false-alarm rate (CFAR) tests for detecting a rank-one signal in the presence of background Gaussian noise with unknown spatial covariance. We look at invariant tests, i.e., those tests whose performance is independent of the nuisance parameters, like the background noise covariance. Such tests are shown to have the desirable CFAR property. We characterize the class of all such tests by showing that any invariant decision statistic can be written as a function of two basic statistics which are in fact the adaptive matched filter (AMF) statistic and Kelly's generalized likelihood ratio statistic. Further, we establish an optimum test in the limit of low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the locally most powerful invariant (LMPI) test. We also derive the bound for the probability of detection of any invariant detector, at a fixed false-alarm rate, and compare the LMPI and the published detectors (Kelly and AMF) to it  相似文献

We present a theoretical overview of low-frequency waves and instabilities in collisionless, multi-component plasmas with gyrotropic ( ) thermal pressure. We show that the complete dispersion relation can be obtained in the framework of a mixed magnetohydrodynamic (MHD)-kinetic formalism, which uses the MHD mass, momentum, and induction equations, together with the kinetically corrected version of the double-adiabatic equations of state. The complete dispersion relation contains not only the three standard modes (fast, slow, and Alfvén) from double-adiabatic MHD, but also the mirror mode from kinetic theory. We examine the stability properties of these four modes, firstly in the case of a uniform medium, and secondly in the case of a stratified and rotating medium. We also discuss the connections with the quasi-interchange modes (interchange and translation) often referred to in the context of magnetospheric physics.  相似文献

We made streamer observations with the Ultraviolet Coronagraph Spectrometer (UVCS) on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) during the early part of 1998, which was a time of moderate solar activity. We present an empirical study of coronal ion kinetics using the line profiles from these observations. Our first and most striking result is that the mid-latitude (ML) streamers have much narrower O VI 1032 Å line profiles than the solar minimum equatorial (SME) streamers. Our second result is that the line profiles from a small collection of ions in ML streamers do not seem to be consistent with the ions having a single temperature and turbulent velocity. We discuss several interpretations, including line of sight (LOS) effects. Particle filter approaches for approximating the first-order moment of a joint, or probability hypothesis density (PHD), have demonstrated a feasible suboptimal method for tracking a time-varying number of targets in real-time. We consider two techniques for estimating the target states at each iteration, namely k-means clustering and mixture modelling via the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. The polar format algorithm (PFA) for spotlight synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is based on a linear approximation for the differential range to a scatterer. We derive a second-order Taylor series approximation of the differential range. We provide a simple and concise derivation of both the far-field linear approximation of the differential range, which forms the basis of the PFA, and the corresponding approximation limits based on the second-order terms of the approximation.  相似文献

Sensor response, location uncertainty, and use of sample statistics can severely degrade the performance of optimum beamformers. We propose blind estimation of the source steering vector in the presence of multiple, directional, correlated or coherent Gaussian interferers via higher order statistics. In this way, we employ the statistical characteristics of the desired signal to make the necessary discrimination, without any a-priori knowledge of array manifold and direction-of-arrival (DOA) information about the desired signal. We then improve our method to utilize the data in a more efficient manner. In any application, only sample statistics are available, so we propose a robust beamforming approach that employs the steering vector estimate obtained by cumulant-based signal processing. We further propose a method that employs both covariance and cumulant information to combat finite sample effects. We analyze the effects of multipath propagation on the reception of the desired signal. We show that even in the presence of coherence, cumulant-based beamformer still behaves as the optimum beamformer that maximizes the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). Finally, we propose an adaptive version of our algorithm simulations demonstrate the excellent performance of our approach in a wide variety of situations  相似文献

We present Monte Carlo methods for multi-target tracking and data association. The methods are applicable to general nonlinear and non-Gaussian models for the target dynamics and measurement likelihood. We provide efficient solutions to two very pertinent problems: the data association problem that arises due to unlabelled measurements in the presence of clutter, and the curse of dimensionality that arises due to the increased size of the state-space associated with multiple targets. We develop a number of algorithms to achieve this. The first, which we refer to as the Monte Carlo joint probabilistic data association filter (MC-JPDAF), is a generalisation of the strategy proposed by Schulz et al. (2001) and Schulz et al. (2003). As is the case for the JPDAF, the distributions of interest are the marginal filtering distributions for each of the targets, but these are approximated with particles rather than Gaussians. We also develop two extensions to the standard particle filtering methodology for tracking multiple targets. The first, which we refer to as the sequential sampling particle filter (SSPF), samples the individual targets sequentially by utilising a factorisation of the importance weights. The second, which we refer to as the independent partition particle filter (IPPF), assumes the associations to be independent over the individual targets, leading to an efficient component-wise sampling strategy to construct new particles. We evaluate and compare the proposed methods on a challenging synthetic tracking problem.  相似文献

Time-delay estimation (TDE) of monochromatic signals,observed by spatially separated sensors, is widely used for sourcelocalization in radar/sonar applications. We use lower bounds tostudy the accuracy of TDE as a function of signal to noise ratio(SNR), frequency, and sensor separation. We consider the distributed detection problem, in which a set of decision makers (DMs) receive observations of the environment and transmit finite-valued messages to other DMs according to prespecified communication protocols. A designated primary DM makes the find decision on one out of two alternative hypotheses. All DMs make decisions, in order to maximize a measure of organizational performance. We discuss three different types of decision rules (deterministic, independent randomization, and dependent randomization), and their implications on the organizational performance. Each DM is described by its individual receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, which is concave. We determine that concavity is not guaranteed for the case of the ROC curve of a team of DMs, even if the decision rules are perfectly continuous and if the individual ROC curves are strictly concave and smooth unless dependent randomization is allowed  相似文献

We review progress in the development of physically realistic three dimensional simulated models of the galaxy. We consider the scales from star forming molecular clouds to the full spiral disc. Models are computed using hydrodynamic (HD) or magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations and may include cosmic ray or tracer particles. The dynamical scales covered, ranging from the full galaxy structure, through the turbulent scales of supernova (SN) explosions, down to cloud collapse and star formation, make it impossible with current computing tools and resources to resolve all of these in one model. We therefore consider a hierarchy of models and how they can be related to enhance our understanding of the complete galaxy.  相似文献

We develop the optimal Bayes multiframe detector/tracker for rigid extended targets that move randomly in clutter. The performance of this optimal algorithm provides a bound on the performance of any other suboptimal detector/tracker. We determine by Monte Carlo simulations the optimal performance under a variety of scenarios including spatially correlated Gaussian clutter and non-Gaussian (K and Weibull) clutter. We show that, for similar tracking performance, the optimal Bayes tracker can achieve peak signal-to-noise ratio gains possibly larger than 10 dB over the commonly used combination of a spatial matched filter (spatial correlator) and a linearized Kalman-Bucy tracker. Simulations using real clutter data with a simulated target suggest similar performance gains when the clutter model parameters are unknown and estimated from the measurements  相似文献

We analyze here how solar neutrino experiments could detect time fluctuations of the solar neutrino flux due to magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) perturbations of the solar plasma. We state that if such time fluctuations are detected, this would provide a unique signature of the Resonant Spin-Flavor Precession (RSFP) mechanism as a solution to the Solar Neutrino Problem. We discuss steady-state transonic outflows obtained by direct numerical solution of the hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic equations. We make use of the Versatile Advection Code, a software package for solving systems of (hyperbolic) partial differential equations. We model thermally and magneto-centrifugally driven stellar outflows as generalizations of the well-known Parker and Weber-Davis wind solutions. To obtain steady-state solutions efficiently, we exploit fully implicit time stepping. Wind solutions containing both a 'wind' and a 'dead' zone are presented. We emphasize the boundary conditions imposed at the stellar surface. For axisymmetric wind solutions, we use the knowledge of the flux functions to verify the numerical solutions. We propose a new method for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation in the presence of multipath propagation and mutual coupling for a frequency hopping (FH) system. With the use of pilot symbols and assuming perfect time-frequency synchronization for a linear array, we take mutual coupling and multipath propagation into account, and derive a maximum likelihood (ML) estimator for both the mutual coupling matrix and DOA estimation. We then formulate an iterative alternating minimization (AM) algorithm for finding the mutual coupling and DOA parameters in an alternate manner. Simulation results illustrating the performance of the algorithm and comparison with the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) are also presented.  相似文献

A multiresolution approach to discrimination in SAR imagery   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
We develop and test a new algorithm for discriminating man-made objects from natural clutter in synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) imagery. This algorithm exploits characteristic variations in speckle pattern as image resolution is varied from course to fine. We model these variations as an autoregression in scale, and then use the autoregressive model to define a multiresolution log-likelihood ratio discriminant. We incorporate this discriminant into the existing Lincoln Laboratory SAR system for automatic target recognition (ATR), and test the augmented system by applying it to millimeter-wave SAR imagery having 0.3 m resolution and representing 56 square kilometers of terrain. At a probability of detection of 0.95, the addition of the multiresolution discriminant reduces the number of natural-clutter false alarms by a factor of six.  相似文献
