Characterization of surface texture by MOTIF parameters

For a long time, there are no determinate limit between roughness and waviness of engineering surfaces, but their effects on the surface performance are different entirely. The MOTIF method, adopted by ISO and widely used recently, offers an alternative evaluation to separate roughness and waviness based on unfiltered profile. Introduces the basic concepts and counting methods for MOTIF parameters briefly. Gives some experiment results on precision machined specimens.
