This paper introduces the major methods of the international comparison used by the international organizations and scholars, especially. the method of using the index of social progress to define the status of China in Asia in 1980 and 1986. The methods of unweighted and weighted aggregation are used to calculate the index of social progress of each country. In computing weighted index of social progress, weighting factors are given by principal component analysis for avoiding personal subjective factors. and improving accuracy.
