Abstract: | Exploratory work has been done on a new class of electric motors using electrostatic forces and ferroelectric materials in a manner analogous to the conventional ferromagnetic hysteresis synchronous motor. A simple test motor has been built, yielding confirmation of self-starting, pull-up, and hysteresis synchronous operation. Advantages including the nonmagnetic feature and printed-circuit simplicity are discussed. Limitations imposed by insulation and materials are also described, as well as areas for continuing development. |
