Methods of Determining the Search-areas for an Aircraft in Distress

This paper presents the established initial rescue limits depending on the aircraft's last position reported or other position information sources and defines the first and second priority search-area techniques and the search-area expanding methods and adjusting techniques when the wreckage of the aircraft or survivors can not be found. It also provides the guide-lines for delimiting search-areas and renders it possible to make detailed adjustments of the search-areas when they are affected by weather conditions, terrain features and sea currents
