CHAOTIC MOTION OF AN ELASTIC CIRCULAR PLATE

Abstract:The chaotic motion of a harmonically forced circular plate is studied in the paper. The virtual displacement principle is used to derive the dynamic equation of motion, with the effect of large deflection of plate taken into account. By means of Garlerkin approach and Melnikov function method, the critical condition for chaotic motion is obtained. A demonstrative example is discussed through the Poincare mapping, phase portrait and time history.
