Abstract:This paper makes an application of the Pfeiffer's theory to discuss the motion of gyro system containing liquid in several completely filled tanks. Averaging the Helmholtz equations over the single liquid volume yields a set of ordinary differentia] equations with constant coefficients, which describe the problem approximately. As a result, the problem of the infinite degree of freedom is separated to the problem of the finite degree of freedom. We make use of the principle of the conservation of the moment of momentum instead of Euler equations, and use the linear theory to analyse the self-spinning stability of the liquid-filled top.
