Operating characteristics analysis for air-breathing pulse detonation engine

The operation cycle and thrust calculation method for air-breathing pulse detonation engines are introduced.Two operating characteristics of pulse detonation engine are analyzed: regulation operating frequency characteristics and flow control characteristics.It is shown that an optimal operating frequency exists in a given flight regime when the detonation chamber is filled with partially detonable gas.The performance of the engine will decrease with lower or higher frequency.Thus fuel flow control method must be used to increase the performance of the engine.When there are redundant purge gases,the performance of the engine will increase with increasing operating frequency and fuel flow.Therefore,combined control method should be used for controlling pulse detonation engines.
