Abstract: | A study conducted in 1991 on nickel-hydrogen (NiH2) battery cells, to assess their use for space-based radar satellites, is discussed. Current NiH2 and related programs were investigated. Cell performance data were assessed, focusing on pulsed-load operation, cell design factors, and life expectancy. A need for pulsed-load testing of candidate cells, especially to characterize their effective series resistance, dynamic impedance, and possible degradations, was identified. A NiH2 cell test program was planned, and test preparations started in mid-1992 |
