Abstract:	Over the past 20 years or so avionics have been designed using common standards and this has improved the quality and to some extent the interoperability of equipment. Yet aircraft systems are still a patchwork of one-off designs and the current thrust in Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) is to address this issue.
