中美记者招待会发言人的语用含糊策略研究

语用含糊是一种出于特定目的的言语交际策略,在中美记者招待会上被外交人士广泛运用。本文选取5篇中美记者招待会的英译文作为研究对象,研究结果表明:模糊限制语被广泛应用于外交发言人答记者问,占51.4%。此外,出于面子和礼貌等因素的考虑,发言人也倾向于运用抽象含糊和指称含糊来对某一现象进行迂回、委婉的批评和警告。同时,语用含糊有助于发言人顺应于营造良好的双边关系和在国际社会中维持良好的形象。

A Study of Pragmatic Vagueness as a Strategy in Sino-U.S. Press Conference

Pragmatic vagueness is a kind of communicative strategy on the basis of special purpose, which is widely employed by spokespersons. The author chooses 5 transcripts of English interpretation in Sino-U.S. press conference as the statistic basis. The major findings are as follows： hedges are widely used by spokespersons in answering the questions proposed by the journalists, accounting for 51.4%. Furthermore, Spokespersons also tend to employ abstract words and deixis to criticize or warn some phenomena in a roundabout and euphemistic manner considering face-saving and polite factors. Meanwhile, pragmatic vagueness helps spokespersons realize the adaptation to social circumstance by obtaining good bilateral relationship and maintaining good image in the intemationai community.
